My wife and I had really enjoyed the tour of Prague Castle. We learned so much about the city's incredible history. Our guide took us to see all the important parts of the castle. He was polite and very knowledgeable about Czechia's history. He also gave us advice on what else to see in Prague and warned us about some tourist traps. This tour was definitely the highlight of our vacation!
I've seen videos and photos of the Prague Castle, and I was so amazed I had to book the tour. I mean, it looks like something out of a fairytale! Especially the Golden Lane part of the castle. The guide told us Franz Kafka used to live there! He is one of my favorite writers, and I didn't know that information. I had to take a selfie in front of his house! The tour was well led, and I didn't feel rushed, unlike some other tours I've been on. 10 out of 10!

THE CASTLE COMPLEX AND ST. VITUS CATHEDRAL
As you meet with your expert guide and the rest of the group, you will receive a headphone set. Put it on and enjoy hearing everything loud and clear. Entering the Prague Castle complex, you will notice St. Vitus Cathedral. This is the most important church in Czech history. Almost all medieval Bohemian kings were crowned, married, and buried here. The construction began in 1344 during the reign of King Charles IV. Your expert guide will point out the gargoyles adorning the facade. Follow them inside the cathedral for a guided tour of the interior. As you admire the stained glass window, listen to audio commentary. Inside, you will also visit the tomb of St. Wenceslas, the first Christian Duke of Bohemia.
GUIDED TOUR OF THE OLD ROYAL PALACE
Next, on your Prague Castle Tour, you will visit the Old Royal Palace. Follow your expert guide into the Vladislav Hall. Constructed in the 15th century, it was the largest hall in the world built without using columns to support it. Here's a quick fun fact: during medieval times, it was used for jousting tournaments! Later, you will visit the Czech Royal Office. Here is the chamber where the famous Defenestration of Prague took place. Listen to the guide explain the significance of this event. During the visit to the Old Royal Palace, you will also enter the Diet Hall. Here the King of Bohemia would discuss politics with representatives of the aristocracy and the clergy. The Diet Hall is also adorned by paintings of Hapsburg rulers. They governed Czechia for centuries, and you will hear more about them from your expert guide.
ROMANESQUE BASILICA OF ST. GEORGE
During the Prague Castle Tour, you will visit St. George's Basilica. It is the oldest surviving church in Prague, founded in 1920. Throughout the centuries, it underwent several reconstructions. Yet, it preserved its Romanesque characteristics. As you enter St. George's Basilica, your guide will point them out and tell you about its architecture. Another thing important about this place is its role in the spreading of Christianity in Czechia. Here you will also be able to see the tomb of St. Ludmila, Czechia's first Christian martyr.
VISITING THE GOLDEN LANE
Next, navigate the castle grounds and arrive at Golden Lane. As you stroll along this picturesque street, enjoy learning about its history. The guards of the castle complex used to live here. Later, goldsmiths populated the area, giving it the name "Golden Lane". Today, many houses have transformed into artisan shops. It's the perfect place to go souvenir shopping, and one of the highlights when you visit Prague Castle.
PRO TIP
When you get in front of the Great South Tower of St. Vitus Cathedral, look up at the massive clock. You will notice something highly unusual: it has two separate clock faces, one stacked directly above the other. This is not a design mistake; it is an authentic 16th-century solution to make the clock readable from far away. The top dial shows only the hours, while the bottom dial shows only the quarter-hours.

Did you know the Thirty Years War started at the Old Royal Palace?
The Thirty Years War was one of the bloodiest episodes in European history. It began right here in the Prague Castle complex in 1618. During a meeting, Protestant nobles threw two Catholic imperial regents and their secretary out of a window of Prague Castle. This event was named the Prague Defenestration. It marked the beginning of religious wars and turmoil.
On the Prague Castle Tour, you will visit the chamber where this historic event took place.
